RASMUS VON GÖTZ I BILDERNARBEN I EDITORIAL

Bildernarben is a fragmentary history of tattoo culture in the northern German port cities of the early 20th century. Drawings based on found tattoo motifs meet a new / old narrative on three levels: scientific, contemporaneous, and autofictional. This network of drawings and associative texts aims not only to provide a historical understanding of tattoo culture, but also a human one, and to find a sensitive way of dealing with the lost stories of those tattoos and their bearers.
